Physical chemistry is a molecular level study of the properties and chemical reactions of molecules and materials based on the fundamental principles of physics and the language of mathematics. It includes the development of new experimental and theoretical techniques, their applications to the study of the structures, dynamics and chemical reaction of molecular systems. It plays a central role in many interdisciplinary studies.
The Physical Chemistry Division is pursuing various advanced physical chemistry researches, such as ultrafast spectroscopy, chemical imaging based on nonlinear spectroscopy, spectroscopic imaging of nano- and bio-systems, quantum chemical simulations related to AI and quantum technology to name a few. These projects are not only limited to the study of fundamental chemical phenomena, but also aim to solve various impending problems in the modern human society such as energy, environment and medical diagnosis and therapy in collaboration with other disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials engineering.
