The goal of biological chemistry is to advance our knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of biochemical processes by applying the principles of chemistry to biological systems. Research areas in the Biological Chemistry Division encompass structural biology of proteins and nucleic acids using X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy, and the development of biosensors utilizing nanodevices and optics. Our basic research findings are translated into the bases for medical applications in disease diagnostics and novel drug design.
