Greeting

Greetings from Dean

On behalf of all faculty, staff and students, I sincerely welcome you to the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering at GIST. Recent changes to the earth environment have prompted international communities to recognize climate change and environmental pollution as a major threat to humankind. Consequently, efforts have been made to limit increases in global temperatures, with a goal of achieving net zero carbon emission by 2050. Amidst increasing global interest in environmental issues, our school provides students and researchers excellent research opportunities in the areas of Earth and Climate Change; Sustainable Energy; and Water Science and Engineering.

There are no strict distinctions or boundaries between the three disciplines of our school. While some faculty members conduct highly science-oriented research, others carry out engineering-based studies. At our school, faculty members with different backgrounds and majors are strongly encouraged to freely discuss their research and methodologies with each other. Students are also encouraged to collaborate with other students or faculty members to further expand their studies. It is not unusual to find a student of one laboratory co-working with a student of another laboratory within the school. Based on these potentials, our school has been able to excel in producing publications and garnering funds ever since its establishment 25 years ago.

Our goal is to become one of the best schools for environmental science and engineering, in both academics and practical applications. If you are interested in joining our school, please do not hesitate to contact us regardless of whatever background you may have. We are delighted to talk and collaborate with you. Should you visit us, please drop by the faculty office first but prepare yourself not to be overwhelmed by passionate greetings.

Best regards,

Prof. Seunghee Han
