• Course DescriptionThis course provides students with an introduction to the basic concepts of power systems. Basic features of electric power systems including phasors, complex power, and three-phase circuits are presented in the first place of the course. To offer students with the capability of transmission system analysis, the key knowledge about power transformer, transmission line parameters, and power flow analysis are provided in the course. The fundamental economic operation of power systems is illustrated in terms of minimizing fuel cost of generation systems. Physical aspects of power systems are primarily highlighted while giving attention to mathematical techniques in the course. Both theory and modeling are developed from simple beginnings so that they can be readily extended to new and complex situations.
